Description

Dissent and Community: Rabbi Judah Magnes in the Judaica Collection at Western Libraries Special Collections

When Judah Magnes came to New York from the west coast in the early twentieth century, he found a Jewish community that was deeply divided and embroiled in grinding labor disputes. Special Collections manager David Schlitt will discuss Magnes’s role as a communal leader and mediator during the time historian Morris Schappes refers to “the heroic period of Jewish labor,” and share related materials from the Judaica collection at Western Libraries Special Collections.
