Dear Western Community,

Welcome to Spring. The Centers for Student Access, Community, and Intercultural Engagement look forward to a quarter of connection and celebration with you!

We are excited to be planning the move of La Plaza Latine Student Center from a small room in the Multicultural Center to a larger space on the fifth floor of the Viking Union. La Plaza is our newest cultural center, empowering Latine students to thrive academically, socially, and culturally. Want to support the good work of La Plaza? Contact Amy Salinas Westmoreland, director of Multicultural Student Services, to learn about opportunities.

Please join The Centers for events throughout the quarter. Centers Community Lunches happen every Wednesday at noon in the Multicultural Center. All students are welcome to join us for food, conversation, and learning in community!

This Spring we celebrate Arab American Heritage Month, Autism and Neurodivergence Celebration Month, Gaypril, and UndocuMonth in April and Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month in May. Participating in programming for these months is a great way to come together across a diversity of identities and experiences to support one another and build community that’s invested in everyone’s thriving. Events include the following; you can find all our events on The Centers Events & Updates website

About the Centers

The Centers for Student Access, Community, and Intercultural Engagement include three Student Affairs departments that advance holistic student development and inclusive success: the Disability Access Center (DAC), LGBTQ+ Western, and the Office of Multicultural Student Services (MSS). All students are welcome to participate in our programs and services.

Within Multicultural Student Services are the Black Student Coalition, Blue Resource Center, Ethnic Student Center, and La Plaza Latine Student Center. Each of these centers are led by student development professionals and provide one-on-one support, resources, and programming for all.

The Disability Access Center facilitates disabled students’ access to all aspects of university life. The Disability Outreach Center (DOC), a program of the DAC, builds community and provides peer-led educational sessions, resource referrals, and gatherings to be in community.

LGBTQ+ Western advances thriving for diverse LGBTQ+ students by collaboratively engaging the Western community with transformational knowledge, resources, advocacy and celebration. In addition to one-on-one support and many resources, LGBTQ+ Western offers regular programming and special events for all.
